Read moreThe Institute of Human Genetics of the Polish Academy of Sciences was founded in 1974. The main research areas of the Institute include cytogenetics, molecular genetics, cell pathology, reproductive biology, mutagenesis and biotechnology. The research conducted at the Institute also includes the issues of transgenesis, epigenetics, genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics. The Institute has established the Innovative Medical Center, which task is to conduct modern research useful to society. It includes the Laboratory of Genomic Sequencing, equipped with the latest equipment for sequencing by new generation methods. Recently, the Institute has launched the Advanced Imaging Laboratory for Cell and Tissue Models.
Scientific research conducted at the Institute is aimed at elucidating the molecular basis of diseases, with particular emphasis on rare genetic diseases, cancer, reproductive disorders, autoimmune and infectious diseases. Basic research carried out at the Institute has not only a cognitive aspect, but thanks to broad cooperation with medical institutions in Poland and abroad, it can be applied in diagnostics and treatment of diseases.
In our research we use modern technologies of molecular biology and genomics along with cytogenetic and immunological techniques. We are developing expertise focused on personalized medicine, regenerative medicine using stem cells, and tissue engineering.
